1 second time!?
Jan 31st, 2005 at 9:35pm

Hey, I'm a relatively casual gamer. I really like nonosweeper and I think it is much more fun to play than minesweeper. I used to wonder how people got one second times in beginner minesweeper, but I now realize they usually get a very lucky click, leaveing hardly any blocks left. But how is it done in this game. Is it like this: http://img112.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img112&image=lucky6ow.png !

lol, I sure hope not. Would people who have gotten the hole in one please give a description so we can all become more angry with you.  Tongue Grin

I'm playing for ~a mount now and still havent done 1sec,but I easy make ~ten 2s in five minutes. It's just a matter of luck to get a better board and then just gotta be fast.  Wink
The "dream board",represented at gsail link must be done in 0sec (0.001 to 0.999) and thats really not difficult if you have the incredible luck to got it Grin

For all who want  to get easy under 5sec on begginer I suggest you to chech out the Jon's post(#42,Nonosweeper topic) Smiley
I still cant figure out is it better to look just at the vertical or just at the horizontal numbers Undecided
I think the mouse is moving easier if you do it in the 1st way but my results are little bit better in the other way so everyone should feel it for himself(herself  Wink)

Check out this setup!!!!  Angry  (Edit: Click for a *slightly* clearer image. It's hard to take screen shots with an external digital camera  Tongue)
...

By the time I realized the potential, a second or so had passed. I'm not that great, but I could've pulled a three on this.

I posted it so the vets could speculate whether they could have gotten a zero. It is possible after all, and it's the only way any of us is gonna break the record...

This game is so cool! When I first started, my jaw would drop if you said you could do beginner in under ten seconds, but now I'm ranked 30th in the world! I still can't figure exacltly how to solve an intermediate game... ???     Do I just take it really slow and think out every move, even if it means I take 600 seconds?

I just realized a board that would be even easier and wouldnt require looking at the bottom:
XOXOXX
XOXOXX
XOXOXX
XOXXXX
XOXXXX

For intermediate, you maybe start best with the rows or columns that are obvious. For example, a 3-2-1-1 must be a XXXOXXOXOX. There a lots of patterns that have only solution solution how that row/column is filled with mines and "free" squares.

After flagging all obvious mines and opening all obvious free squares, you just go on and search for new obvious squares. I bet that you'll finish below 600...

Btw, on a board that is

OOOOOO
XOXOXX
XOXXXX
XXXXXX
XXXXXX
XXXXXX

you don't have to look at the columns as well, and it's a lot easier as it 6 of 9 squares to open are in one row!

Well you won the bet.  Grin Not that 179 is something to brag about, but you've got to start somewhere. I went really slow, and highlighted the numbers and everything.

I lost my beautiful 3 second time! And the 4's and 5's I had don't count!    Cry

Less than half in under an hour of play.  Wink I've been getting scores around 70-80, but I often botch up before finishing. I can now finish almost all intermediate games if I don't rush. The key is getting one of the side, or top or bottom rows.

Now my problem is expert. I cant get ranked until I finish at least one. Undecided

It is my first post, so...

Let me congratulate Yariv for develping such a fantastic game, much better than it's cousin Minesweeper.
In fact it's more than a simple game, it's The Game.
Yariv, you deserve the Nobel Prize of game developing, because Nonosweeping is pure pleasure.
Congratulations again.

Now, let's talk about my 1's.

Since Jon Simonsen and Roland Seibt managed 1's on biginner, i started my own personal 1's time hunting.
After 2 weeks of intense struggle against the clock and 93 2's i finally did it.
The effort paid dividends . Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

To those who like screenshots, here it is.

@Luca: I just save a screenshot of every fast game I can finish. By this, I'm always aware of the number of 3s, 27s or 99s I got.

Don't you save anything or maybe only your personal bests?

I use Microsoft Photo Editor. And the procedure of saving a screenshot is automated in my fingers in a way that I think I need only 10-15 seconds.

But as long as Nonosweeper doesn't contain a built-in saving-screenshot utility, that's the only and best way.

The new update of Nonosweeper is one for readers of this thread - you can find out your time to 1/100th of a second so you know how close you are to a score of 0 secs!
(The best times lists still list only by seconds, the accurate time is for information only.)

In the new rankings. the old 1 seconds would have to either be excluded or all assumed to be 1.99. If you excluded them, you would have a note on the page that said "the following people acheived 1 second times before the new system" for bragging right's sake.  Roll Eyes

True, but what about all the other scores in the database (i.e. not 1 second)? It would look funny and probably annoy all the people who upload times from older versions that they were suddenly getting an extra .99 on their times, but I can't think of any other 'fair' way. ???

Considering this, I think it's better to leave the online scores as they are - they seem to have worked pretty well so far anyway!

If others want to do it, new scores from an old version could have a note reminding people to upgrade.

But I'm not a one second acheiver, so it doesn't really matter that much to me anyway.

What do other people "assume" on a 1 1 1? I'm not sure how to train myself to do those.

On 1-1-1 I usually do like that:skip one;reveal two;skip one again;reveal one and remain the last one marked(in my mind).Sometimes however I do it otherway, especially when they are two 1-1-1s.You start to "see" them correctly only by a lot of practice(if you're not some genius of course) and a big amount of luck also very often Wink
I'm glad that there are new pursuers of "The Holly 1".It seems that Stephan and maybe later Yariv and Gavin will join the club and filling up in this way Top 10 only with 1s Smiley
I havent played the last few days(I was skiing 8)) and still dont have opinion about the new update(but I think is coll Smiley), but I also think that is better to leave the online scores as they are  Grin

I've made my first 2 on 24.01. In the beginning of Feb I've started to pursue the 1 and after regular playing(with rests-this is very important) and around 10 hours total gameplay on beg I've made my first 1 on 19.02...
...half an hour I was "celebrating Smiley ",w/o closing the "precious" window and then I decided that I am wormed up and may make another 1 easy.I was very right-not more than 5-10 "F2" and-second 1. Since that day I play on beg only 5-10 min/day but the "1s" began to come easier and easier...
Happy sweeping  Wink

Thank you, Kire, that you credit me with being able to do a 1, but I think I'm not the one who will join the "1 club". Yesterday, I played really a lot, but the fastest I could do was a 2.64

I have only 7 2's now. And the boards with no mine in the first row are extremely rare, unfortunately...

Luca, 1x3 in 1.5 hours is awesome, as well as 2.01, 2.03, 2.05 from you, Gero!

My fastest is 1.61, too.
The following are:
1.79x2, 1.89, 1.95x2, 1.96x2, 1.98

I cannot imagine that anybody will ever play 0s. I played custom boards, for example one with a 3x4 grid with 3 mines. So you have to open 9 squares as it is on beginner. My best was 0.89 or something like that. So it's on this really easy board "hard" to get 0s. So on beginner level it's nearly impossible. Not 100% so there is a little hope that someone will get 0s. But as I said, I cannot imagine that this will really happen. Undecided
I would really like to have one, but it's only a nice dream. Smiley

Today I scored my 23rd beginner 1.xx sec time. I do have also 23x minesweeper sub 1 sec but this took me about 10x longer.

Nonosweeper: 1.59-1.99 sec (level played about 100 hours)

Minesweeper: 0.15-0.99 sec (level played about 1'000 hours)
